"About Face"
A commemorative exhibition on Rizal The Lopez Museum
This year being the 150th birth anniversary of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal,
the artists also made use of the museum’s extensive Rizaliana holdings.
These include the hero’s billfold and brushes, flute, letters and personal papers
from Dapitan, Hong Kong and Europe. The letters written in Paris were the
inspiration for the installation of Talents, who saw in these letters a portrait
of Rizal as a Filipino and a student abroad.
The first editions of Noli Me Tangere published in Berlin in 1887 and
El Filibusterismo published in Ghent in 1891 are also on display,
the latter signed and dedicated by the author to Jose Maria Basa,
a fellow patriot with whom he stayed and who was instrumental in
passing propaganda literature to Manila.
